Application Guide for Shanghai University 2023 Chinese Government Scholarship Bilateral Program (CSC Type A)

Shanghai University (SHU), founded in 1922, is a member University of Project 211  and  a  leading  comprehensive  university  co-sponsored  by  the  Ministry  of Education and Shanghai Municipality. It is among Shanghai’s first pilot programs of  high-level  construction  of  local  university.  As  a  university  with  first-class discipline construction qualified by the Ministry of Education, SHU reaches 22nd among  universities  in  Mainland  China  in  QS  rankings  2023,  and  1st  in  THE Higher Education World University Influence Rankings 2021.

SHU  offers  a  wide  range  of  disciplines,  covering  philosophy,  economics,  law, literature, history, natural science, engineering, management, art, etc.

There are more than 40，000 full-time students in Shanghai University, including 2,837 international students from more than  150 countries. Modern campuses with well-equipped dormitory and sports facilities, and easy accessibility with subway  nearby  provide  a  pleasant  environment  for students  of  different languages and cultures to study here.

BASIC  INFORMATION  ABOUT  THE   SHCOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Chinese  Government  Scholarship  Bilateral  program accords  with  the cooperation  and  exchange  agreements  or  consensus  reached  by  the  Chinese government  and  the   governments  and  institutions  of  other  nations. This scholarship program referred to as CSC-type A.

  1.  Applicant: Outstanding international students applying for undergraduates,postgraduates,  general  and  senio  scholars’programs  in  Shanghai University.

  2.  Majors under this scholarship program: No Limit (For all majors open toenrollment at Shanghai University in 2023)

  3.  Scholarship  Coverage:  The  Bilateral  Program  provides  both  fullscholarships and partial scholarships.

WHERE AND WHEN TO APPLY

  1.  Apply to the dispatching authorities for overseas study of your home country,  such as educational department, Chinese embassy.  

  2.  Generally,  from  November  2022 to April  2023. Please consult  the dispatching authorities for the specific deadline of each year.

SCHOLARSHIP ELIGIBILITY

  1.  Be a citizen of a country other than the PRC and in good health both mentally  and physically.

  2.  Requirements for applicant's degree and age:

  - be an academically excellent holder of high school diploma or its equivalent under the age of 25  when applying for an undergraduate program;

  - be an academically excellent holder of a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent under the age of 35 when applying for a Master’s program;

  - be  an academically excellent holder of  a Master’s  degree or its equivalent under the age of 40 when applying for a doctoral program;

  - be a holder of a  high school  diploma  (or higher)  under the  age  of 45 when applying for a general scholar program;

  - be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for a senior scholar program.

  3.  Requirements for applicant's language proficiency

  - Have  passed  the  HSK  (Level  3)  when  applying  for  a  Chinese-taught undergraduate or general scholar program (excluding Chinese language majors);

  - Have  passed  the  HSK  (Level  3)  when  applying  for  a  Chinese-taught senior scholar program;

  - Have  passed  the  HSK  (Level  4)  when  applying  for  a  Chinese-taught postgraduate program;

  For applicants  who do not meet the language proficiency requirements for admission to Shanghai University  Chinese taught programs, will first take one-year Chinese foundation        program. Only after  passing  the examination and meet  the  language  proficiency requirements can be admitted to the degree/ non-degree program.

  The  language  proficiency  requirements  for  admission  to  Shanghai University Chinese taught programs:

  nglish taught program, have passed the IELTS (Type A) 6.5/TOEFL IBT 90, or be the native speakers of English, or the previous degree was fully taught in English.

  4.  Academic  background  and  abilities  should  meet  the  application requirements of Shanghai University.

  5.  No other type of scholarship was granted at the time of application.

APPLICATION DOCUMENTS

NOTES:

  1.  Documents  not  in  Chinese  or  English  should  be  accompanied  by  Chinese/English translation provided by notarized or issuing departments;

  2.  Only scanned copies of the above materials are required for application, and  the original documents are required for reference at the time of registration.

  3.  Uploaded  supporting  documents  must  be  clear,  authentic  and  valid. Applicants  are  recommended  to  use  a  professional  device  to scan  the relevant  documents. Applicants  shall  bear  the  consequences  caused  by untrue, unclear or unidentifiable uploaded materials.

APPLICATION METHODS

Step 1:  Applicants  submit  their  applications  to  Shanghai  University  Online Application  System  (https://apply.shu.edu.cn)  ,  pass  the  application  material review  and   online   interview,   and  get  pre-admission   notice  from   Shanghai University.

    - Shanghai  university  online  application  system  is  scheduled  to  open  on November 30, 2022.

    - Please pay attention to your application status within the system, and check  your  email  in  time.  Generally,  applicants  could  get  the  feedback  in  14 working days.

Step 2: Apply to the  dispatching  authorities  for  overseas  study  of your  home country for CSC Type A scholarship opportunity.

Step 3: login  https://www.campuschina.org  ，choose Type A, complete the online application

Step 4: Reviewed by Chinese Scholarship Council (CSC)

Step 5:  Inquire the  dispatching  authority  about the  result  and  receive  officialadmission documents

OTHERS

  1.    Scholarship applicants must submit their application materials by their own. These who apply by agencies will be disqualified from scholarship.

  2.    Scholarship  recipients  must  complete  the  registration  and  enrollment  on scheduled  time  in  accordance  with  the  university  regulations.  Those  who miss the deadline without approval will be disqualified from scholarship.

  3.    Scholarship  recipients  must  bring  all  original  documents  for  registration. Provision  of  any  false/  misleading  information  or  failure  to  provide  the requested supporting documents will lead to disqualification of admission.

  4.    Scholarship recipients are required to attend the annual scholarship review, which  evaluates the academic  performance  and  daily performance  for the whole academic year. Those who fail to pass will lose their eligibility for the next year’s scholarship.

  5.    Scholarship  recipients  cannot  change  the  major,  or  transfer  to  another University, or prolong the length of study in principle.

  6.    Those  items  shall  be  explained  by  the  college  of  International  Education, Shanghai University.
