Non-Chinese citizen in good health with a valid passport;
Applicants studying for a bachelor’s degree should have obtained high school diploma;
Applicants studying for a Master’s degree should have obtained bachelor’s degree;
Applicants studying for a Doctoral degree should have obtained Master’s degree,and no older than 55 years old.
Applicants studying for non-degree programs should have a formal education background at high school or above, aged from 18-55.
Applicants who are less than 18 years old should submit Guarantee Statement.
Note:
1. Graduates who did not receive their degree certificates at the time of application should provide pre-graduation certificates issued by their schools or colleges to prove their ability to graduate smoothly and obtain their degree certificates by July 2021.
2. According to the regulations of the Ministry of Education of China, those who immigrated to other countries from the Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao or Taiwan and applying to study in Shanghai University as international students, should meet the following additional requirements: the applicants must hold valid passport or other relevant international recognized documents for at least 4 years; meanwhile, in the latest 4 years (by each April 30th of the year of University registration), the applicants must have lived overseas for 2 years (Living overseas for 9 months can be converted to 1 year, which is subject to the exit-entry stamp on visa.).
Language ability
1. If you are applying for Chinese-taught programs, HSK certificates required:
HSK 4 above 180 for Chinese Language(BA), Teaching Chinese to Speakers of Other Languages (BA);
HSK 5 above 180 for Science or Engineering, Economics or Management and Art;
HSK 5 above 210 for Humanities.
Note:
HSK refers to Chinese Proficiency Test. You can find information on: www.chinesetest.cn
HSK Exemptions
The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the HSK:
Native speaker of Chinese;
The previous degree is fully taught in Chinese and has gained certificate.
2. If you are applying for English-taught programs:
IELTS (A) 6.5 or TOEFL IBT 90 or above received within the recent two years(TOEFL MyBestTM Scores accepted).
Other internationally recognized English proficiency tests with scores of the same level and provide proof of certificates.
TOEFL or IELTS Exemptions The following types of applicants are exempt from taking the TOEFL or IELTS:
Native speakers of English;
The previous degree is fully taught in English.
Academic Requirement
1. Undergraduate Programs
High school graduate, GPA 3.0 or above(Note: 4-Point GPA System);
For Science or Engineering programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics and physics in high school; For Economics or Management programs, applicants are qualified in mathematics in high school; For Arts programs, applicants are required to submit the portfolio.
2. Master’s Programs
Have relevant undergraduate academic background or have completed undergraduate-level courses relevant to intended graduate major, GPA 2.5 or above(Note: 4-Point GPA System);
Accepted by a prospective professor at Shanghai University
Choose supervisor online when choosing a major in the online application system and get accepted by a prospective professor.
Please note that it is not required to choose supervisor for the following Master’s programs: School of Economics, MBA center and SILC Business School. The colleges will arrange soon after they register at Shanghai University.
Students applying to programs of arts must have relative academic background and submit a portfolio.
Some colleges give priority to applicants with work experience, such as MBA Center.
3. PHD’s Programs
Have relevant master's degree background and relevant academic achievements,GPA 3.0 or above (Note: 4-Point GPA System);
Accepted by a prospective professor at Shanghai University
Choose supervisor online when choosing a major in the online application system and get accepted by a prospective professor.
Please note that it is not required to choose supervisor for the programs of School of Economics. The School will arrange soon after they register at Shanghai University.

About Tuition Fees
1.1 The fees for international students shall be calculated in CNY.
1.2 Payment can be made with deposit cards issued by Banks in China or credit cards with the marks of "UnionPay", "VISA" and "MasterCard". Any commission incurred by the use of "VISA" or "MasterCard" or other credit cards issued by overseas banks shall be borne by the students themselves.
1.3 International students shall pay tuition fees in full within the specified time. Those who owe for no reason or fail to pay off tuition fees on time shall not be registered.
About Tuition deposit
Payment
1.1 All applicants of degree programs must pay the tuition fees deposit( RMB5000 )after receiving the E-admission notice within 20 working days. If the payment is not completed after 20 days, it would be regarded as giving up. Those who obtain scholarship after deposit payment can get refund after registration.
*The following types of students can be exempted from paying the tuition deposit:
Chinese government scholarship students (Program Category Type A only); Degree students recommended by partner institutions of Shanghai University.
1.2 Only bank transfer is accepted.
After payment, please log in to the application system, click "Tuition Deposit Payment", and upload the payment receipt online. After being confirmed by working staff, paper admission documents will be delivered soon.
1.3 Self-fund degree students shall pay the rest of the tuition fees when registration. For scholarship degree students whose scholarship covers full tuition fee, deposit will be returned to Chinese bank cards according to refund policy.
Refund
2.1 The deposit is non-refundable except the circumstances outlined below.
A. Withdrawing your application within 30 days after the successful deposit payment to Shanghai University bank account;
B. University cancels programme;
C. Refusal of a student visa;
D. Scholarship Students who have paid deposit.
2.2 The deposit is non-refundable in the following circumstances:
A. Withdrawing your application after 30 days after the successful deposit payment to Shanghai University bank account;
B. Admitted Students but never enrolled;
C. Those who fail to apply visa due to personal reasons, the deposit will not be refunded;
D. Current Students who transfer out or withdraw.

How to be eligible for an international student to apply for the scholarship?
To be eligible, applicants must
- be a citizen of a country other than the People’s Republic of China, and be in good health;
- be a high school graduate under the age of 25 when applying for undergraduate programs;
- be a bachelor’s degree holder under the age of 35 when applying for master’s programs;
- be a master’s degree holder under the age of 40 when applying for doctoral programs;
- be under the age of 45 and have completed at least two years of undergraduate study when applying for general scholar programs;
- be a master’s degree holder or an associate professor (or above) under the age of 50 when applying for senior scholar programs.
I am a current student in China, can I apply for the Scholarship?
No. A current student who has not yet graduated is not allowed to apply for the scholarship. Not be an enrolled degree student in Chinese universities at the time of application.
Can I change my major ?
No. scholarship students can’t change their majors in principle.
What are the admission criteria for programs?
Generally, an applicant must meet departmental standards set for the selected program of study. For undergraduate programs, there is no special departmental requirement except Fine Arts and Music. But requirements for admission to the postgraduate programs are different. You need to choose Supervisor Online and Get Accepted.(Please note that it is not required to choose supervisor for following postgraduate programs: School of Economics, MBA center and SILC Business School. The colleges will arrange soon after they register at Shanghai University.)
