About School of Journalism and Communication
The School of Journalism and Communication at Shanghai University is the only one of its kind in China, which collaborates with both the Publicity Department and the Journalism and Communication Institute of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. And it can be traced back as far as the Department of Journalism in 1987. SJC consists of four departments: The Department of Journalism and Communication, the Department of Advertising, the Department of Intelligent Communication, and the Intelligent Audiovisual Department, offering five undergraduate specialties. The total number of students is 1000, including 366 undergraduates, 412 postgraduates, 86 doctoral students, and 136 international students in September, 2023.
Program Introduction
The Master of Journalism and Communication (English as Medium of Instruction) Training Program will cultivate outstanding journalism and communication professionals and provide international, high-level and applied talents for government-related departments, corporate branding departments, news media, advertising agencies, public relations companies, exhibition companies and other organizations.

2) Training Mode and Mentorship
In terms of mentorship, the program adopts a dual mentorship system that combines internal and external mentors - one academic mentor and one industry mentor. The curriculum in the program fully reflects the knowledge and quality requirements for professionals in the field of journalism and communication practice, and focuses on the cultivation of abilities to analyze and creatively solve practical problems. In terms of teaching methods, emphasis is placed on the use of team learning, case studies, field research, simulation training, etc.

Credit Requirements
Credit requirements: at least 51 credits must be completed, including at least 7 credits of public courses, 16 credits of professional basic courses, 20 credits of professional elective courses, 2 credits of academic standards and writing courses, 2 credits of innovation and entrepreneurship courses, and 4 credits of professional practice.
Students in this major can take non-major courses from different majors and colleges under the guidance of their mentors according to their own conditions, and include them in the training program. The course credits can be included in the total credits (no more than 2 courses can be included in the total credits).

Application Information
1) Eligibility
(1) Non-Chinese citizen in good health both mentally and physically with a valid passport.
(2) English Language Proficiency
IELTS (A) 6.5 or TOEFL IBT 90 or above received within the recent two years (TOEFL MyBest &TOEFL essentials scores accepted).
Other internationally recognized English proficiency tests with scores of the same level and proof of certificates is needed.
The following types of applicants are exempt From taking the TOEFL or IELTS:
ü Native speakers of English;
ü The previous degree is fully taught in English.
(3) Academic Requirement
Ø Applicant need to hold a Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent when applying for a Master’s program;
Note: Graduates who did not receive their degree certificates at the time of application should provide pre-graduation certificates issued by their schools or colleges to prove their ability to graduate smoothly and obtain their degree certificates by the end of July 2024.
