On October 30, ARWU officially released 2019’ s ranking of China's best disciplines, covering 96 first-level disciplines, adding three disciplines (Systems Science, Armament Science and Technology, Landscape Architecture) over last year. The ranking targeted all the universities with academic postgraduate degree programs within the first-level discipline and published the top 50% of universities.
A total of 4,986 disciplines from 460 universities were listed in the ranking. SHU boasts 35 disciplines listed (see the table below).
On the afternoon of October 15th, Shanghai University organized a high-level talent recruitment event at the University of Technology Sydney. The event was presided over by Jin Xingyu, Deputy Director of the Personnel Division of Shanghai University and attended by nearly 50 outstanding scholars and young talents who have studied and worked in Sydney and other Australian cities.
At the event, President Liu Changsheng, on behalf of Shanghai University, extended a sincere invitation to overseas talents. Shanghai University gives strong support to overseas outstanding talents in career development, team building, housing and other aspects. In addition, Shanghai University focuses on the construction of cross-discipline subjects, with a complete range of disciplines, so everyone will find a tailored career path. He eagerly expected overseas talents to join Shanghai University and contribute their strength to the construction of the motherland. Meanwhile, teachers of the Talent Office and Director of SHU-UTS SILC Business School Lv Kangjuan also gave a detailed introduction on the basic composition of the university, the development of disciplines, the cultivation of talents and the prospect of employment. In the subsequent free exchange session, local outstanding young people in Sydney had an in-depth exchange and communication with the participating teachers on such hot issues as research assessment, salary and academic development, etc.
It is an effective way for colleges and universities to build talent team by gathering overseas high-level talents through overseas recruitment events. Next, the special recruitment event of Shanghai University at National University of Singapore will be held at 3:00 PM, October 19th at Shaw Foundation Alumni House, 11 Kent Ridge Drive, Singapore 119244, and the special recruitment event at Universität Heidelberg will be held at 6:00 PM, November 10th at Institute of Organic Chemistry, Universität Heidelberg. We are looking forward to young talents who are willing to return to the motherland and draw a brilliant blueprint with us!
Thanks to six years of meticulous preparation, SHU-UTS SILC Business School (SILC) has successively accomplished initial report, annual report, Initial Self-Evaluation Report (iSER), Final Self-Evaluation Report (SER) and other evaluations of AACSB accreditation, and has been qualified for an on-site visit by AACSB. To better prepare the on-site visit, the teachers and students of the school treated the accreditation like an “exam” since six months ago. Several seminars on accreditation were held throughout the school, which enabled all faculty and staff to have a clear understanding of the characteristics and basic requirements of AACSB accreditation. With a very intensive three-day on-site visit schedule, the on-site visit expert panel, composed of deans of three internationally renowned business schools, including College of Business, California State University Long Beach, USA, Bond Business School of Bond University, Australia and School of Management of China University in Taiwan, China, conducted 11 highly targeted in-depth interviews with groups from different departments.
The founding members of the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) include management schools of Harvard University, the University of Chicago, Northwestern University and other world-renowned universities. It was formally established in 1916 and is the world’s leading non-governmental accreditation organization for business schools and accounting programs.
The AACSB accreditation represents the highest achievement of business schools in the world. The accredited business schools are also regarded as business schools with first-class teaching quality. AACSB’s rigorous accreditation system and high standards are universally recognized. There are only 24 business schools in ‘Mainland China that have earned AACSB accreditation, most of which are “Project 985” universities, the top universities in China.
